Custom 60t RTG Crane Exported to Thailand | Heavy Duty Port Solutions

2026-08-25

Project Background and Demand Overview

To handle growing throughput near Laem Chabang Port in Thailand, the owner urgently needed high-performance yard handling equipment. The container yard demanded strict operating efficiency, continuous operation capability, and tropical marine climate adaptation. Addressing this demand, we customized a 60t Rubber Tyred Gantry crane (RTG). The RTG was successfully delivered, assembled, and commissioned in 2026, and is now in routine commercial operation.

60t RTG Core Parameters and Structural Design

During design, this 60t RTG fully utilized Finite Element Analysis (FEA) software. It optimized the structure for extreme loads and fatigue life, reducing weight while ensuring high rigidity.

Technical Indicator

Parameter Configuration

Rated Capacity

60 t (under spreader)

Span

23.47 m (covers 6 container rows and a truck lane)

Wheel Base

6.4 m

Lifting Height

18.2 m (stacks 6 containers and passes a 7th)

Gantry Travel Speed

45 m/min (loaded) / 90 m/min (unloaded)

Trolley Travel Speed

70 m/min

Hoisting Speed

21 m/min (loaded) / 42 m/min (unloaded)

The machine uses an eight-wheel, four-axle drive structure. The gantry travel mechanism features straight, diagonal, transverse, and pivot steering modes, greatly improving yard maneuvering and transfer flexibility.

Environmental Adaptation and Anti-Corrosion Engineering

For Thailand’s hot, humid, high-salt tropical marine climate (C5-M corrosive environment), the crane underwent targeted material and surface upgrades:

  • Coating Process:The steel surface underwent Sa2.5 sandblasting. The coating uses zinc-rich epoxy primer, micaceous iron oxide epoxy intermediate coat, and polyurethane topcoat. The total Dry Film Thickness (DFT) is ≥ 320 μm. It withstood salt spray testing for over 1500 hours.
  • Electrical Protection:All outdoor control boxes and junction boxes utilize 316L stainless steel. Their protection rating reaches IP66. The electrical room features an industrial redundant dual-air-conditioning system. This ensures core components stay within set limits at 45°C ambient temperatures.

60t RTG Electrical Control System and Intelligent Configuration

This 60t RTG features an industry-leading digital control system to fully guarantee operational safety and efficiency:

  • All-variable frequency drive system:Utilizing AC variable frequency speed regulation technology, the machine runs smoothly. It switches speeds seamlessly, which effectively reduces mechanical impacts.
  • Electronic anti-sway and smart inching system:Equipped with a PLC-based electronic anti-sway algorithm, the system automatically compensates for sway angles during trolley acceleration and deceleration. It controls residual spreader swaying within $\pm$20mm. Combined with the inching function, alignment precision increases by 25%, drastically shortening single operational cycle times.
  • Energy-saving Power Unit (ERG):The power system uses a low-emission diesel generator set integrated with an efficient energy recovery system. During spreader lowering and gantry braking, released potential and kinetic energies convert into electricity stored in ultracapacitors. The overall energy consumption decreases by over 22% compared to traditional RTGs.

Quality Control and Cross-Border Logistics Delivery

During manufacturing, our company strictly executed ISO 9001 and international welding standards. Butt welds of main load-bearing components underwent 100% Ultrasonic Testing (UT) and Radiographic Testing (RT) non-destructive flaw detection. Before factory departure, we conducted various type tests including 125% static load and 110% dynamic load tests to ensure collaborative stability between mechanical structures and electrical control systems.

For international transport, the project team adopted a large-component modular shipping plan. After the equipment arrived at the Thai pier, our overseas after-sales engineering team connected seamlessly. They completed mechanical assembly, electrical wiring, system joint debugging, and Terminal Operating System (TOS) integration strictly according to scheduled nodes. The equipment passed local statutory special equipment inspections in Thailand on the first attempt, completing the turnkey delivery 10 days ahead of the industry average.

Project Outcomes and Client Feedback

Since delivery, this 60t RTG has operated at high intensity for several months in the Laem Chabang yard in Thailand. The equipment availability rate remains above 99.6%. Field data shows that introducing this equipment improved container turnover efficiency in the yard by nearly 20%. Its excellent anti-sway performance and smooth handling received unanimous praise from Thai operators. The successful implementation of this case proves the technical adaptability of our large-tonnage RTGs in premium overseas markets. It also lays a solid foundation of technology and trust for subsequent port machinery projects in Southeast Asia.
